Our Story
September 2011, a small group of dedicated men and women turned their passion into a purpose. They loved animals and wanted to make our community a safer, healthier place for pets and people alike.
February 2012, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter was established as a non-profit organization to promote the humane treatment of animals and provide protection, care and shelter for unwanted and homeless animals.
January 2013, we acquired a parcel of land in the Air Business Park on Marshfield’s south side at the end of the cul-de-sac on Downwind Drive to build our new home.
October 2013, volunteers renovated an empty space inside the Marshfield Mall so we could have a physical presence in our community. We began housing adoptable cats there in February 2014. The space was known as our Adoption Center.
June 2015, we retrofitted an old airport terminal building at 210 W 29th Street to serve as an animal shelter so we could begin taking in stray animals for the City of Marshfield and the surrounding areas. From Oct 2013 to March 2020, we operated within two separate locations: our intake shelter on 29th Street and our Adoption Center inside Marshfield Mall. Our adoption center was permanently closed in March 2020.
On August 15, 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony for our new facility took place and construction began in Sept 2019.
On August 20, 2020, our new facility was completed and we moved all our animals to our new location. Our dream has come true for local animals and the people who love them. $1.5 million dollars was raised to build the first humane animal shelter for the Marshfield area.
MANY THANKS to all the incredible and generous community members, volunteers and supporters who believe in us and our lifesaving work. Your continued support will build brighter futures for innocent animals for years to come.
With a little help from our friends, anything is possible .... 🐾🐕🐈💕
